Power system expansion has placed an increased emphasis on the Generation Excitation Control Systems to improve the power system stability and dynamic performance.
In this thesis, predictive based excitation control schemes are proposed to enhance the generator dynamic responses under a wide range of system operating conditions and network configuration changes.
A Voltage regulator and an integrated Voltage Regulator and Power System Stabilizer have been designed based on one step ahead prediction.
The performance capabilities and network configuration changes. It is shown that the performance of the predictive controllers is consistent in all the cases studied and is superior to that of conventional controllers.
The influence of a predictive controller on other controllers of conventional design in multi‑machine environment is studied. It is shown that the predictive controller improves the total system performance.
