Most transit agencies rely on interviews and surveys to better understand their patrons. These surveys request address information which is ignored in the process of analyzing the surveys.
This research presents a methodology to incorporate these addresses in transit service planning. This methodology extracts the addresses from the survey and thengeocodes them. Procedures to geocode different address formats are presented in this research. Straight and shortest path distances computations are also presented.
Two case studies of access modes were discussed as implementation of this study. Traveler and trip‑making characteristics in these case studies were also presented.
This study suggested that walking access distance, which was recommended by the Federal Transit Administration, need to be changed from 0.25 mile to 0.50 mile.
